Bangles – Poplar Creek – Hoffman Estates, IL. June 26, 1987
This was a fun show. I was in the 3rd row and had a great time listening and photographing. Not only did they look good, but they knew how to rock, jam, or groove, depending on the song. Sisters Debbie and Vicki Peterson, Michael Steele, and Susanna Hoffs took the stage and they owned it for the night. Their big hit “Walk like an Egyptian” was a fan favorite, but they had plenty of depth in their songs, even doing a remake of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Hazy Shade of Winter”. The Bangles version exceeded the popularity of the original, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Due to pressure from their record label, The Bangles removed the verse from the original song that contained the line "drinking my vodka and lime." Rock historians view the Bangles as one of the greatest all-female bands ever.
